The Internet is a valuable resource and educational tool. With the simple click of a button, the outside world streams all sorts of information into living rooms near and far. Why not take a break from the constant barrage of streaming news and serious world events by including a little off-the-wall website fun?
From pointless and silly to downright weird and strange, the websites listed below offer a wide variety of just-for-fun useless entertainment that is guaranteed to do nothing more than waste time. While some of the sites may be as interesting as watching grass grow, it goes without saying: what one person considers pointless may be perceived as something entirely different to another!
Pointless and Off-the-Wall Websites:
- ManBabies – This silly website transforms images of men into babies. Submissions must include images of both baby and man with faces that are not hidden or obscured.
- BigLongNow – Users are greeted with a black and white image of a door. Click on the door panels for more useless fun.
- PaperToilet – Users are greeted with a single roll of toilet paper in this pointless website created by Rafael Rozendaal.
- OnAHorse – The premise of this website is pretty straightforward. Just watch the horse race uphill. That’s it!
- Man in the Dark – Watch as a jelly-like man swims in darkness in this visual website from Miltos Manetas and Aaron Russ Clinger. Many find the Man in the Dark, addicting.
- HistoricalTweets – Twitter lovers will appreciate this website. What would historical figures such as Jesus and Abraham Lincoln, tweet about if given the chance? HistoricalTweets takes a step back in time and shares the imagined and contrived thoughts of people from the past, today. Imagine what Albert Einstein or John F. Kennedy would tweet about today. Al Capone tweeted, “April 15 Again” while Eve said, “I should eat healthier” are just a few of the examples from this hilarious and thought-provoking site.
- OneSentence – This website posts true stories from people all over the world. The only catch – the story has to be told in one sentence. True to its name, only one sentence stories are allowed. Only about 10 percent of submissions are accepted.
- Leekspin – Listen and watch as the famous Loituma Girl twirls a leek to the catchy Finnish tune of “Ivean Polkka” by the group Lotimua.
- MonoFace – Create a new face by clicking on various facial features. Over 700,000 combinations are currently available.
- ColorFlip – Drag the pages by the corner to reveal another colored page below.
- WebMetronome – Adjust the number of beats, accent beats and rate in this online metronome.
Pointless Games:
- Fly Swatter – The idea of this online site is simple: pick up the fly swatter and swat the flies.
- Toss a Ball – The premise of this pointless game from Soda Dome, is to toss the tiny black ball into the air. Keep tossing it.
- Bubble Wrap - This online game, from Sealed Air, simulates the popular bubble wrap that is often used in packing. Pop all the plastic bubbles before time runs out.
- flOw – Use the cursor to dive, twist, turn and evolve the worm creature in this “abstract, aquatic world” game created by Jenova Chen. Beginning as an underwater microorganism, the creature grows as it glides and swims through the sea. Although some may consider this game pointless, the soundtrack is mesmerizing and the visual game is available online or as a free download.
