Although the origin of April Fool's Day is questionable, this special day has been celebrated for centuries. On April 1st, people around the world celebrate April Fool’s Day, a light-hearted day full of leg-pulling, fun pranks and practical jokes.
While many people stick to whoopee cushions and traditional “real-life” gags, the Internet provides yet another venue for April Fool’s pranksters.
Many websites are fast becoming well-known for having a little Fool’s Day fun at the viewers’ expense.
In 2007, Google offered a beta version of "Google TiSP". TiSP offered free wireless broadband to those who registered. Once registered, users would receive an installation kit complete with user guide, wireless router and fiber-optic cable. TiSP bragged the new service was “vacuum-sealed to prevent water damage”. Service, of course, also depended on individual water companies.
Google Romance debuted in 2006. “Dating is a search problem. Solve it with Google Romance” Features of the new beta program included “Soulmate Search”, and “Contextual Date”. Now users from all over the world could find love online with Google Romance.
Facebook got in on the online fun in 2007 by adding strange bits of news to news feeds and offering a service called “Live Poke”. Just as the name suggests, a real person would poke a real friend of the user.
