Find a wide assortment of free medical and health related information online by visiting the following websites.

The Internet is a valuable resource that provides a wide array of information with a simple click of the mouse. Medical information websites provide a vast array of helpful information for computer users. Symptoms, precautions, side effects, cures, medicinal and alternative treatments, specific diseases, procedures, conditions and illnesses, are just some of the available information. Users have immediate access to health information from medical experts and professionals and those struggling with the same or similar conditions.

Although these websites may offer additional suggestions and alternatives regarding health related issues, the information should not replace medical advice from one's medical provider.

Medical Information Websites:

  • WebMD – WebMD provides a vast array of up-to-date medical information for users. Information includes the Top 12 Health Topics and latest headlines, message boards, live events, pill identifier and a handy symptom checker. The information is reviewed by an Independent Review Board.

  • MayoClinic – The MayoClinic website provides easy access to a first-aid guide, symptom checker, slide shows, videos and “Ask a Specialist.” The award-winning site, launched in 1985, provides valuable information to users from medical professionals, physicians and scientists from the Mayo Clinic. A free newsletter is also available.

  • KidsHealth – This website includes three separate areas for parents, children and teenagers. The Nemours Foundation's Center for Children's Health Media created the award-winning site, which has been online since 1995. More than 500,000 people visit this popular website each day. All content is reviewed by medical professionals prior to publication.

  • MedlinePlus – Over 750 health-related subjects are included in MedlinePlus. The National Library of Medicine created and maintains this helpful site. Tutorials, A.D.A.M. Medical Encyclopedia, Merriam-Webster Medical Dictionary and drug and supplement information are just a few of the helpful tools included on this website.

  • eMedicine – eMedicine, which began in 1996, currently has over 10,000 contributors. The information provided on eMedicine is rigorously reviewed prior to publication. eMedicine is part of the WebMD Professional Network.

  • MedScape – This online medical journal includes columns from experts, book reviews, medical news, viewpoints, clinical overviews, over 150 medical journals, and a free subscription to MedPulse. MedScape is part of the WebMD Professional Network. Registration is required

  • FamilyDoctor– Many helpful tools are included in this website from The American Academy of Family Physicians. Search by gender, symptom, alphabetical conditions, age and more. FamilyDoctor is available in Spanish and in large print.

  • HealthLine – Millions of unique visitors visit the HealthLine website each month. Drug search, symptom search, medical dictionaries, Harvard Health publications, various calculators and videos are just a few of the tools available on HealthLine.

  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, is a valuable resource for credible health information. Some of the information provided on the site includes diseases, conditions, emergency preparedness, statistics, traveler information, workplace safety, news, publications and much more.

  • PatientsLikeMe – Founded in 2004, Ben and James Heywood launched PatientsLikeMe after their brother was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease. Patients from all over the world visit this website to share information, learn and bond with others coping with illnesses.

  • PubMedCentral– This website, from the U.S. National Institutes of Health, provides a free digital archive of biomedical and life sciences journal articles.
