There are things an online community can do collectively to bring an element of real life to the virtual forum.

While not the typical everyday life, online communities are environments that are every bit as real, complete with the friendships that develop inside them. Those who take part in virtual socializing know all about the bonds that exist within an online community.

Inside a chat forum, it takes a little more ingenuity to come up with ideas in which a group can participate as a whole. Geographical distance of group members should not be a hindering factor in the group's overall ability to participate in additional activities.

Send E-Cards - Send e-cards to online friends for birthdays, weddings, births, or any other special events taking place in their lives. Let your online friends know that they are thought of. There are an abundance of free e-card websites available, making this a free activity with a message definitely worth the effort.

Integrate Music - Streaming music and online radio websites are extremely powerful community-oriented tools, as they bring sound to the otherwise silent forum. Group members can link into a chosen music site and listen to the same music at the same time.

Share Photos - Consider setting up a photo sharing webpage that all members of the group can contribute to. There are a number of free sites available that offer the option to protect the uploaded content with passwords. A simple group password is ideal for all members to have access, yet keeping the content protected.

Play Online Games - There are plenty of online chat environments available that are built around various types of online games. Collect a group of your online friends and arrange for a group game.

Find a Social Cause - Find a common social cause that appeals to, and perhaps even represents the group as a whole. Consider bonding together to make a contribution. . Donations can be made safely through official websites, eliminating the need for one person to take on the responsibility of group treasurer.

Host and Plan a Summer Gathering - While a difficult venture, it is every bit possible to pull off. It is surprising how many people respond to the idea of gathering with their online friends. Look for a central location to hold the gathering; however, resist the urge to use a group member's home.

There are a plethora of free webpage sites available to assist the group in composing a dedicated site to store information about a proposed event, location, hotel accommodations, transportation, fees, and meals. All elements of a gathering, including member feedback, can be contained in one location as the proposed event moves forward in the planning.

Bringing elements of real life to a virtual group doesn't have to be an insurmountable obstacle. Of course, as with every online community, be sensible and use good judgment when mingling and bonding with groups for a more enriching overall social experience.
