There are three ways to get backlinks from blogs.
- A writer’s own blog is a great place to add links to a website. Links can be added directly from a relevant blog post to the website.
- Ask other bloggers to blog about the website. Offer them something in return for their generosity.
- Leave comments on the blogs of other writers with a link to the website. Do this tastefully. When leaving comments for creating backlinks, remember to leave only well thought out comments. Short messages of no value with an URL are considered spam. Also, some blogs require comments to be approved, so the comment will not be seen if it is not approved.

Social networking websites like Facebook, LinkedIn and MySpace may be used to build dofollow backlinks. However, because social networking websites often require login to view the content they are not accessible to search engines as dofollow links.
If a profile is publicly accessible without logging in, then the links can be followed by search engines and may help pagerank. Use an existing account or set up a new account. When using an existing account, it is a good idea to clean up the profile making it relevant to the website being promoted.

Ezine articles do not earn money, but they are great for traffic and dofollow backlinks.
Squidoo pays a small amount to lensmasters for creating lenses on their website. In addition, lenses provide great dofollow backlinks and increased traffic to a website. Squidoo currently has no limit to the number of backlinks a lensmaster can create on a lens, but they are considering limiting the number of outbound links to a specific site. For example, one lens cannot have more than 10 links to the same site.
HubPages allows backlinks to be created in hubs. These backlinks are dofollow only if a writer's overall hubscore is above 75. Hub score can be increased by writing great hubs and logging in regularly.
