Two valuable resources are now available online to help find missing children: a new video channel on YouTube and a no-cost screensaver download.
According to The United States Department of Justice, nearly 800,000 children are reported missing every year in the United States. Thankfully, most are recovered quickly. Two new resource tools are available which provide exposure and awareness for missing children throughout the world. Don’t You Forget About MeThe International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC), collaborating with The Find Madeleine Campaign and YouTube, have developed a new Internet resource created exclusively for showcasing videos of missing children around the world. The Missing Children’s Channel is a new channel on the video sharing site YouTube. The channel’s title, Don’t You Forget About Me, named after the song by the musical group Simple Minds, includes child safety and educational information available in several languages. Public Service Announcements and messages from celebrities and dignitaries are also available. There is no cost to publish videos of missing children on Don’t You Forget About Me. All cases are reviewed and analyzed by ICMEC, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), Interpol and other various agencies, prior to publishing. No anonymous or incomplete submissions are accepted. The ICMEC, established in 1998, is an agency working to protect the world's children from exploitation and abduction. Missing Kid ScreensaverThe National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) along with software developer Global Software Applications, has released a new screensaver program to help locate missing children in the United States. The Missing Kid Screensaver, a free download available on the Internet, is a new and dynamic resource tool for personal computer users. When a computer is idle for a specific amount of time, the free screensaver rotates photographs and pertinent information of missing children retrieved from the NCMEC database. The Missing Kid Screensaver is specific to the geographical area of the computer user and is refreshed and updated every three hours. A Mac version of the screensaver will be available in September 2007. NCMEC, founded in 1984, is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting children from abduction and sexual exploitation. The National Center of Missing and Exploited Children has helped law enforcement in over 133,000 missing children cases, resulting in the recovery of more than 115,700 children! To bring additional awareness and exposure to this important campaign, a free Missing Kid Screensaver banner is available for website and blog owners. For additional information, please visit the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, and The Find Madeleine websites.
