Groundhog Day is celebrated annually on February 2nd.

Groundhogs, also known as woodchucks, ground squirrels or marmots, are furry critters that have been known to predict weather.

Legend has it, every year on February 2nd, the famous groundhog emerges from his comfy underground burrow in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, where he has been hibernating all winter. As spectators look on, if the groundhog sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter and he returns to his burrow for a six-week nap. But if he does not see his shadow, there will be an early spring and he stays above ground. The infamous Punxsutawney Phil has been predicting the weather since 1887 with 100% accuracy!
