Under new ownership Circuit City re-launches as an online retailer.
Long time consumer electronics retailer, Circuit City, closed its doors in January due to Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Slowly but surely each and every public retail store faded into history. However, in May of this year Circuit City was purchased by Systemax Inc. and was re-packaged as an outlet for online shopping. Systemax Inc. is a retailer of electronics, computers and industrial products. Online ShoppingWith their new direction, Circuit City serves as an online haven for those interested in today's modern technology. From televisions to computers and everything in between, Circuit City has a new life courtesy of the Internet. No longer a public retail chain, Circuit City now guarantees lower prices, an extensive product selection, fast shipping and 24/7 customer service. Sony, Toshiba, SamsungIn the same fashion as the retail chain, the new online retailer still carries some of the most respected and well known brands in the electronic world. The new expanded variety of products includes Blu-ray and DVD players, Digital Cameras and HDTVs...just to name a few. Customers can expect the same quality and the same trusted popular name brands that frequent buyers have come to enjoy. The new website is constantly offering sales on popular name brands to attract new and old customers to the brand new Circuit City. Best Buy and Wal-MartFollowing the bankruptcy of Circuit City retail stores, Best Buy and Wal-Mart certainly shared a collective smile. Regarded as the biggest competition for the now defunct retail store, Best-Buy has and will continue to see increased business thanks to the extinction of Circuit City stores. Even though Wal-Mart is a constant mainstay, they are certain to receive increased business in the entertainment department due to the demise of Circuit City. The re-launch of Circuit City is still no competition for the big name public retail stores that have become the hallmark for the technology enthusiast. Online RetailersOver the next several months it will be interesting to see how Circuit City will fair in a competitive online market. Having to rely on Internet sales alone, it will be difficult to sustain the newly found momentum created by the re-packaging process. Circuit City and their loyal customers are certainly pleased to still have the services of a trusted name, but the new online retailer could find the going tough in a very competitive online market. With household names like Amazon.com, eBay.com and numerous other online shopping outlets, Circuit City must find a new “fan base” in order to survive in a very tough market.
