A man paramount to the civil rights movement, Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929, in Georgia. His mother was a school teacher and his father was a minister. He was ordained a minister at the age of 17. In 1953, he married Coretta Scott and they raised 4 children. Martin Luther King, a hero to many, received his doctorate degree and in 1964, and later won the Nobel Peace Prize. On April 4, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, was assassinated. Declared a national holiday in 1986, his life is remembered and celebrated every 3rd Monday of January.
